Yorkshire

Over 80 events are taking place in Yorkshire, including film screenings, talks, walks, tours, building-visits, exhibitions, excavations, excursions, children's activities, and the ever-popular RIBA Architect in the House. See the listings for more details of these and other events as they are confirmed.

In Yorkshire we're looking at Urban Picnics - Urban Picnics are free, and everyone is invited to take time out, stop, sit and enjoy the best, quirkiest or least loved modern architecture, and rediscover places in our towns and cities that are often passed by.

The backdrop to a quick lunchtime or evening picnic might be the UK’s smallest window in Hull or Leeds’ controversial Merrion Centre.

Some of the country’s top chefs and food writers, including Simon Gueller (The Box Tree, Ilkley), Antonio Carluccio, Giorgio Locatelli and The Times food-writer, Lindsey Bareham, have contributed their favourite picnic recipes.

From eco-friendly office-spaces, to the newest commercial developments, Architecture Week opens up spaces that are often restricted, or under construction. On the 30th floor of Leeds’ tallest building, inside the newly opened Bridgewater Place, Civic Architect John Thorp, will describe the influence of this development on the surrounding area and what we might expect to see next. In Wakefield, visit the construction site of The Art House’s new home, designed to provide exemplary access for disabled visitors; and in Doncaster, architects will guide visitors around the town’s newest architectural highlights, including Keepmoat Stadium.
